Corey's TUSCAN DINNER PICS.
From Will Carter, the Celebrations Master: “If you didn’t watch the Victoria Day parade yesterday, in person or on TV, put in a loonie.” Happy Dollar from Perry Bamji who has just come back from Italy. Happy Birthday was sung to Jerry McLean. (P.S. Will, you asked me 2 weeks ago when my birthday was, and I said, “Yesterday, May 16.” Fortunately, delayed Happy Birthday songs are not in the club tradition!)
Leslie Rogers-Warnock won the 50/50 draw, but not the white marble.
AT THE LAST BOARD MEETING, LEADERSHIP WAS AN IMPORTANT TOPIC. THE CLUB
IS STILL SEEKING A PRESIDENT-ELECT. IF YOU CAN SEE YOURSELF VOLUNTEERING TO
FILL THIS POSITION, WOULD YOU PLEASE CONTACT A MEMBER OF THE BOARD.
The Annual Oak Bay Tea Party will be held June 4 and 5. Will Carter circulated sign-up sheets to volunteer for this event
and will be sending the same out in email format. Will encouraged everyone to take part....not only is it fun,
but it is easy money and a lost shift is lost revenue for our Rotary projects.

Peter Lawrie, Community Service: In Peter's absence John Edgell read his notes which listed the 7 projects in which our club participated: Rotary Water Park at Carnarvon Park, sent candidates to RYLA, and AIC, Oak Bay Interact Club, SMART board (SMART “like a touch screen on steroids”) for Quadra School, George Jay school (another SMART board), and Greater Victoria Rotary Literacy Round table. Read the whole report here. |
On this second sunny day in a row in Victoria, President John opened the meeting with a Welcome, and a comment that at today’s meeting we “look back over the year” as the directors of committees give their reports. Tom Lidkea played O Canada and Lori McLeod read the Grace. And we were soon on our way to the tables (after the guests, of course).
From President John:
John informed everyone present that in light of the fact the Board has not been able to find a President-Elect for 2012-13, the Board asked Joan Peggs to do two years as President. Joan (who was not present at today’s meeting) agreed on condition that the members gave their agreement. John asked all members present to indicate their agreement by the raising of hands. Almost all hands went up indicating their favour. (Guests did not vote). Carried.
DIRECTORS REPORTS
Tav Macpherson, Rotary International Foundation.
John Edgell filled in for Tav. Tav has filed a report rating our club as “Excellent.” We have reached every target we have set.
Jim Force, Membership:

The average age of club members is 65. We have 7 members under 50 and 19 members 70 and over. The good news is that we have active members in all age categories. We currently have 59 members, with two new members to be inducted in June, one new member proposal to be brought forward in June and two high prospects. We have 4 members currently on leave. While it is important to continually induct new members into the club it is also important to build a network of friends of the club. We currently have 35 folks listed on our Friends of Rotary email list. All club members are invited to add one new "Friend of Rotary" to the list. This can be done by asking the friend's permission to be on the list, then sending the person's name (first and last) along with their email address to Jim Force <jforce@shaw.ca>. Our goal is to double the number of "Friends" by the first of July.

David Sills (right), The Treasurer:
We are awaiting the final figures from the Tuscany Dinner Fundraiser. The closing surplus for the year to date ($34,081) is higher than the opening surplus ($21,671). “Good works will happen when we have the Tuscan Dinner results.”
Victoria Pitt (right), Oak Bay Rotary Foundation: We’re working on setting up rules for how to use the foundation money.
Perry Bamji, (left) International Projects: Perry had all 8 committee members stand, to a round of applause. Perry pointed out that we have club members who are doing “hands-on” work, which he calls “sweat equity.” John Edgell in Puerto Vallarta, John Jordan in Rwanda, Tricia Timmermans in the Philippines, John Snively, Tricia Timmermans, and Jacqueline Mealing in Guatemala. The meeting ended in style with the singing of God Save The Queen.
