President Jack reminded us that A Visit from St. Nicholas was written in 1822 by a Mr. Clements. Pres. Jack then proceeded to regale us with his Rotary version. Tom Lidkea played for O Canada and Bob Beauvais recited grace.
No visiting Rotarians or guests.
Health of the Club: Les Canty reported that former Club member Dr. Gonzalo Monje-Alvarez passed away on December
5, 2007. He was a member from 1979 to 2004 and is remembered for gathering medical supplies for the poor regions of his native Bolivia.

Announcements:
Tricia Timmermans reported that the Victoria Public Relations Committee has received a $6,000 Foundation grant to sponsor an event Cycle to Walk in order to raise money for polio.
Mark Bedford is marrying his fiancé Jo on December 29th – they courted many years ago in England.
Tickets are available from Tom Lidkea for the Scotch Tasting/Robbie Burns night January
19th. The event is to take place at Oak Bay Recreation Centre – Scotch tasting at 6:30pm, Robbie Burns Dinner and Entertainment starts at 7:45 pm. Tickets for Scotch Tasting and Dinner are $90, Dinner only: $50. (Those who purchase dinner tickets only are welcome to come to hear the scotch tasting but cannot participate in the actual tasting.)

Those who had not worn their Rotary pins at least three times during the week were fined.
People with last name beginning with B were able to fine other club members.
Birthdays: Perry and Les on January lst. Mary Canty won the draw but drew black.
Director’s Meeting Report:
January 2008 lunch cost will increase to $16 to cover 50 cent food increase and 50 cent gratituty increase.
Spring Fundraiser – will be a concert with Jack’s Gospel Choir and Oak Bay High musical
program. More details to come but this fundraiser should net an $8 - $10,000 profit for the club.
Shelterboxes – donation from the club will be made in 2008. Other members who wish to donate the $1,200 for a box, either individually or by pooling with other members, will be given an opportunity to do so. Some members have already donated.
Valentine’s Day Dance – Jack has reserved 6 tickets for this black tie event at the Union Club – if you are interested in attending see Jack.
District Leadership Training Assembly – will be in Victoria on February 23/24. The Club will subsidize attendees possibly up to half the cost of registration – please let Jack know if you are interested in attending.
The Annual General Meeting was called to order.
Annual Report: Brian Lamb presented the results of his audit and moved the adoption of the report. Seconded by Tav Macpherson. Carried.
David Sills presented highlights of the Report, which he had distributed to all members in attendance. Noteworthy was the record $25,906 contribution to the R.I. Foundation. Also, that fund-raising was at a record high. David then gave us an update as of Dec. 17, with half the Rotary year gone. $18,102 has already been raised for the Foundation, surpassing the $16,000 budget.
