FOUNDATION The R.I. Foundation - reported by Tav MacPherson Tav Macpherson, Foundation Director talked of the Global Scope of the Rotary Foundation (TRF). Founded in 1917 with a donation of $26.50, the worldwide annual contributions have expanded to $55 million (2002-03). The Foundation supports Rotary International in achieving world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programs. Our District Foundation goals for 2005-06 include 430 new Paul Harris Fellows, 860 new Permanent Fund Benefactors, 86 new Bequest Society Members with an additional 14 new Level 3 or 4 Bequest Fund Members and 14 new Major Donors. The most important goal for the District is an Annual Giving amount of $520,000. Governor, Joan Firkins pointed out that this is not an arbitrary amount but represents $100 for each member in the District. There is a new initiative called ‘Every Rotarian Every Year' and it will be the Foundation Committee's challenge to invite all the members of our club to join in supporting this. We believe that educating our members of the workings of TRF and making it fun to give, will lead to the realization of our goals. Tav closed with two illustrations of how TRF has made a difference. Through the International Committee, our club participated in a Clean Water Initiative in which the District utilized donations from clubs ($890 from Oak Bay) and the matching grant system to bring sanitary water to 40,000 people in 25 Ethiopian villages. I say WOW – this is worth celebrating. Rotary and the Rotary Foundation does make a difference. Please support us. You too can make a difference. |
