The Third Annual Classic Golf Tournament was held at the Cordova Bay Golf Course, August 26, 2005. Thanks to Neil Madsen for reporting on the event, and to Tom Croft, who submitted some images taken at the tournament, and to all who helped in any way to make it a great success.

The third annual event was bigger and better than ever, according to co-chair Tav MacPherson. Tav was also M.C. at the buffet banquet following the golf. He began by introducing Lori McLeod, Executive Director of Eldercare, who represented our partner in this tournament. Before dinner, President David was introduced, and said a few appropriate words. He then offered for reclamation several items found on the course after the game. Notable was a set of car keys, costing David Philip $10, but President David was not yet done with David Philip! It cost him another $10 to retrieve his abandoned club. Were you into a Scot's mother's milk early that day, David? Amazingly, several other golf clubs were found on the course and were ransomed off. After a great buffet (sea-food, baked salmon, roast beef, with appropriate trimmings, and scrumtious deserts) Tav took up his duties again thanking the Cordova Bay Pro Shop and the catering staff, who were represented by Tania. The committee who had organized the event were named and acknowledged: Lori McLeod, Ron Cooley, Tom Croft, Lorna Curtis, David Sills, and David Philip (I hope I didn't forget anyone). Also acknowleged were the sponsors and prize givers and those who had donated items for the Silent Auction. They were all listed in the program. A Special Prize for Sponsors was awarded to Heather Aked.

Live Auction: Kathy, from Eldercare, auctioned off three donated items; a golf bag, a boat trip and lunch at a winery (donated by John Edgell - it went for $260) and a powered golf cart, (which went for $450). Irene Davie, who had arranged it all, wrapped up a very successful silent auction.

Finally, the draw for the serigraph “Fore”, donated by Ted Harrison, was won by Bruce Carson. Last of all, the prizes for various categories in the Tournament were awarded.

To wrap up the Golf Tournament, reports were given at the Club Meeting on Aug. 30 by Lorna Curtis and Tav Macpherson. Lorna reported that the Silent Auction plus the Live Auction had yielded a total of $4,272. Well Done! Tav noted that it had been a great day. 106 golfers had participated, a healthy increase from previous years. He paid a special tribute to the volunteers who had monitored four holes for possible holes-in-one (there were none, but some came close) and who had to sit out there for four hours in the hot sun. One such volunteer (initials J.S.) did complain that a cold beer would have helped. Tav, make note of that in your procedures manual which you plan to prepare for next year's Tournament.

Finally, the Bottom Line! Tav reported that preliminary results indicate that the gross revenue was $28,000 and the net revenue was $12,000, which will be split equally between our Club and Eldercare. Congratulations to all who made this Tournament such a great success!
