BELOW: New President, Neil, welcomes Guest Speaker, Brian Frank and his guide dog, Simon.

President Neil opened the first regular meeting of his term of office by quoting from past R.I. Presidents. He also noted that the Installation dinner was a great success. The magician enraptured
Lynn, Heather and Lori. A great job was done by this 16-year-old Lucas Kavanagh, a student of Vic High.
Tom Lidkea played for O Canada and Joan Peggs recited grace.
Announcements
Dues are now payable.
Next Wednesday, July 16th, there will be a Rotary Visioning Meetingat the Rec. Centre from 5 to 9 PM. This event is an important strategic planning and re-visioning session that will give a clearer sense of our mission
and purpose for the next three to five years. The object is to assess the current status of the club. Please note the Questionnaire from Tricia, which should be filled out and returned to President Neil as soon as possible. This is a great opportunity for new and older members alike. Please come out - we need 20 members to make this a success.
Guest Speaker: Nels Granewall introduced Brian Frank and his dog Simon. He spoke on the FACES NETWORK. Brian is a Master of Divinity and United Church Minister and Educator, and is the Chairman of the Board for Faces Network. FACES stands for Family And Community Educational Support.
Faces Network Society is a small, non-profit agency whose goal is to reduce the causes of poverty. Major focus is on education. Their mission is to focus on families and communities
around the world to provide individual and communal empowerment through education
and dialogue.
They are currently working in the Philippines. Their plan is to focus on a small rural community
for the next five years. Starting with Sampaguita National High School, they are going to build a covered court which will be used by the students as well as for community gatherings.
Faces has also agreed to funding for learning materials and additional teachings. This will include providing much needed text books, pens and paper, farming and trade equipment tools and supplies.

Lynne reported that Ola is settled back at home and already misses everyone; she says Hello.
Dallas Chapple is the first of a new team of Sergeants doing 2-month stints. The other Sergeants to be nice to: Perry, Peter, Wendie, Tom, Mark and Dallas.
John Snively pushed Mary Canty into the bushes and she has a sore arm. The moral of this story is: do not go biking with John. That cost him a $1.00. Fines were also levied on those who did not attend the Installation Dinner and/or did not watch Wimbledon.
Dallas found a birthday card from January 10 for Joan Firkins. Apparently Brian had lost it in his papers. Another birthday card was for Heather Aked; and Hans O. celebrates an anniversary. The
50/50 draw was won by Heather Aked.

For more information on this great project visit www.facesnetwork.ca. There you will find the complete story of how this organization came into being. The web site gives a re-cap of Frank’s talk.
The speaker was thanked by Carl Jackson. |
